The child had been in their care for 17 months and was previously at Cleveland Protestant Orphan Asylum, father deceased, mother's whereabouts unknown.
Wheeling Daily Register, Nov 8, 1899, reported that the firm of Lewis and Clemens, barbers, 57 12th St, Wheeling, was dissolved by mutual consent, H. B. Clemens having purchased the interest of Thomas H Lewis. ( who was in bad health)
The 1900 census gives birth Feb 1847, so date 1843 on stone may be incorrect.
