A GOOD WOMAN GONE.
Sudden Death of an Estimable Old Lady.

Sunday evening Mrs. Phoebe L. Jackson, while going about her household affairs in her home on G street, and in apparently perfect health, was suddenly stricken with apoplexy and fell to the floor. When found by one of her daughters, the elderly lady was dead. Mrs. Jackson was the mother of W. F. Jackson, Principal of the School of Design, of the late Chief of Police O. C. Jackson, of Mrs. A. K. Quigley, Mrs. O. P. Dodge, Mrs. Wilber F. Smith and Frank T. Jackson. Mrs. Jackson was born in Vermont in January, 1817, and lacked but seven days of being 75 years of age. Her husband, D. S. Jackson, still living, is but two years her senior. The couple had been husband and wife fifty-five years. Nine children were born to them, five of whom are living, and all but one of whom are married people. There are living six grandchildren. Mr. and Mrs. Jackson came to California in 1863, nearly thirty years ago, and settled in Sacramento, where they have continuously resided. During all that time they have enjoyed the high esteem and respect of the entire community. Mrs. Jackson was a woman of strong domestic tastes. She loved her home above all things, and found its sphere large enough for engagement of all her energies. She was a devoted mother, and all her children have risen up to call her blessed. She was amiable, affectionate, gentle and of merciful disposition. She was just in judgment and firm in her convictions of right and justice. She will be mourned by a large circle of immediate friends and her death be regretted by all who know her.
