Jot D. Akers, 82, of Brownfield died Thursday, Jan 17, in Lubbock Methodist Hospital. He was the husband of the former Jewell Edwards of Reno.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Jan. 19, in the First Baptist Church in Brownfield with burial in Resthaven Cemetery in Lubbock under the direction of Brownfield Funeral Home.
Mr. Akers was born June 18, 1902, in Donley County and attended schools in Hedley. He was a farmer and rancher and had owned Akers Tank Truck Co. and Akers Furniture and Appliance. From 1957 until his retirement in 1972, he was Terry County Tax Assessor and Collector. He married Jewell E. Edwards on March 18, 1941, in Lubbock. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and a former member of the Lions Club. The Akers Oil Field near Brownfield now being developed by Forest Oil Co. and Conquest Oil Co. is on his property.
Surviving are his wife; four daughters, Mrs. James(Judy)Bruckner of Athens, Ga., Mrs. Billy Mahler of Wichita Falls, Mrs. Ima Meeks of Michigan and Mrs. Bob Burley of Lubbock; one son, M.J. Akers of Africa and one sister, Mrs. Lorene Swift of Memphis.
