After a brief stay at Community Memorial Hospital and Sunnyside Health Care in Cloquet, MN, Doris Reed, 96, passed away on May 27, 2017. She was born on October 17th, 1920, one of ten children to John and Susanna Dunphy. She graduated from Cloquet High School in 1939.

In 1941 Doris married Martin "Barney" Angell. They made their home in Cloquet and had five children. In 1952 they moved to Portland, Oregon for a period of six years. In 1958, they returned to the Cloquet area and built the Big Lake Store where they served that community until Barney's death in 1973. They were avid golfers and charter members of the Big Lake Golf Club.

In 1975 Doris married Earl Reed, who became "grandpa" to Doris's numerous grandchildren. They together enjoyed a home on Big Lake: fishing, boating, and entertaining. They also traveled extensively in the U.S.

Doris was very active in the community by serving as a volunteer in the hospital gift shop for more than 40 years, as the last charter member of the VFW auxiliary, as a committee member for Habitat for Humanity, as a song leader and choir member of churches, as a teacher of religious instruction…to name a few. She enjoyed league bowling, cribbage groups, Bible studies, and prayer groups.

Baking and cooking were some of her great talents. Her special chicken soup with homemade noodles, "buns", caramel rolls, and dill pickles have made her famous with family and friends around the country. She has taught her home-cooking skills to many.

Her large family has appreciated her multiple crocheting and craft projects. Grand children, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren have been warmly-wrapped in beautiful crocheted blankets and family homes have been decorated with doilies, plaques, and ceramic ware.

Doris was preceded in death by her two husbands, son Alan Angell, grandson Doug Angell, son-in-law Darrel Eaton, and her nine siblings. She is survived by her children Kathy Barrett, Marty (Sandy) Angell, Barbara Eaton, Brad (Irene) Angell, daughter-in-law Jo Angell, 15 grandchildren, 45 great grandchildren, and three great-great grandchildren.
