Born to Audrey and Carroll Mansell. After they divorced, Audrey married Stanley (Sam) Mahr in 1948, and he was able to adopt Carolyn and her sister Dawn. They were raised in San Marcos by Audrey and their Daddy Sam. She went to Escondido High School, attended Mercy Nursing College briefly, and then married Hartwell Douglas Baldwin in 1955. They had three children: Judith Ann, Douglas Allen (who preceded her in death), and Mark Louis. The family resided in Escondido and San Marcos for 22 years and they divorced. Carolyn worked at Wyland Construction for 20 years, and then was able to retire when she married a long-time family friend William Fowkes in the San Diego Temple. She had a short 10 years with Bill full of caring for her dad, visiting with family, and enjoying some travel. Bill sadly passed away just 2 months short of their 11th anniversary, and Carolyn has spent the last 10 years caring for and being cared for by her family. She leaves behind her two remaining children, eleven grandchildren plus their spouses, 31 great-grandchildren, and her only sister Dawn Hudson and her family.

Carolyn is best known for her cheerful, fun-loving spirit, her generous giving heart, her lenjoyment of "bling", and most importantly, her love of family and friends, and her devotion to her Heavenly Father and Savior Jesus Chri
