Lafreniere Park is the largest Park in Metairie, Louisiana. It was named after Nicolas-Joseph Chauvin de la Freniere, who received a 5,000-acre land grant from Jean-Baptiste Le Moyne de Bienville in 1720 which he used to settle with his family. The name of his home was Lafreniere Plantation.
Elmwood Plantation on River Road in New Orleans was built by Nicolas-Joseph Chauvin de la Freniere in 1762 for the first Governor of the State of Louisiana, William Charles Cole Claiborne.
Nicolas Chauvin, Sieur de La Frenière, the elder, who was born 1675 in Montréal, and died in 1748 in New Orleans, Orleans Parish, Louisiana.[1]
