Mrs. Ruby Nell Heaton Bannister, 97, of Lewis Drive, Hartwell, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2018 at her daughter’s home in Conyers, GA.
Born on March 9, 1921 in Hartwell, GA, she was the daughter of the late O. G. Heaton and Lucy Pulliam Heaton. Mrs. Bannister attended Tift College, Abraham Baldwin College and graduated from the University of Georgia with her Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. She was a retired teacher from Hart County School System and a former teacher at Emmanuel College.
She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, where she taught Sunday School and organized bus trips. She also was a member of the Hart Co. Retired Teachers Association, DAR, UDC, Pine Tree Garden Club and several Bridge groups.
Survivors include her daughter: Sue B. Caughman and her husband John of Conyers, GA; a granddaughter: Jennifer Black of Greenville, SC and a sister: Irene Grant and her husband George of Taylors, SC.
Mrs. Bannister was preceded in death by her husband: Joe Wilton Bannister; three brothers: Roy Heaton, Howard Heaton, Charles Heaton and two sisters: Lorene Adams and Susie Carol Heaton.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 26, 2018 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Harwell with Dr. Hugh Kirby and Rev. Carter Tucker officiating. Burial will be in the Nancy Hart Memorial Park.
The body is at the Strickland Funeral Home of Hartwell where the family will receive friends from 1:00 to 2:30 Saturday afternoon. The family are at their respective homes. Flowers optional, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Hartwell, 81 E. Howell St. Hartwell, GA 30643.
