As story goes, William and his wife were so poor they were starving to death. Other members of the family felt sorry for them and took food in. But the winter was very cold and William was sickly and he fell out of bed and froze to death laying on the floor. His wife, Martha, froze her feet trying to take care of him and after he died, she had to leave and go live with other members of the family as she couldn't take care of herself any longer!
