Gail Marie (Jerzak) Balzer was born in Canby, MN on June 17, 1952 to Vernon and Loretta (Steffes) Jerzak. Gail grew up on a dairy farm near Ivanhoe, MN. She attended Ivanhoe Public School. After graduation she furthered her education at Canby Technical College with a degree in Business Administration. On November 20, 1971 she was married to Edward Balzer. They moved to Marshall, MN where their daughter Jennifer was born. Gail was a stay at home mother for many years until her employment at Gags Rexall Drugstore. In 1988 the family relocated to Sioux Falls, SD where they purchased a gas station/convenience/liquor store known as Balzer’s Mini Mart. After that was sold she worked at Morgan Stanley Dean Wittier Credit Corporation and then Sioux Falls Electrical Union.
Her greatest enjoyments in life were traveling, camping, fishing, family, being on the farm, going to casinos, wonderful cooking, gardening, canning, playing cards, boating, time spent at the lake cabin, annual family event of deer hunting, 4th of July at the Lake and Ivanhoe Polish Days. She was a huge Minnesota Vikings and Elvis Presley fan! She thoroughly enjoyed her daughter, her grandchildren and great-granddaughter. Gail enjoyed spending time with her husband and her dad. She loved to have a great time with her many friends and family.
After a long 8 year battle with cancer and many side effects from chemotherapy and radiation, Gail passed away peacefully in her home on Saturday, May 19, 2018 with her family by her side at the age of 65 years, 11 months and 2 days.
Grateful for sharing her life was her husband Edward Balzer; daughter, Jennifer (Doug) Klemp; grandchildren: Samantha, Kiersten, Tyler & Haley; her precious great-granddaughter Kayzleigh; and her many friends and family.
Gail was preceded in death by her parents, Vernon and Loretta Jerzak; sister, Carole Wilson; and many family and friends.
A special thank you to the staff and Sanford Hospital, Covington Heights staff and Sanford Hospice.
