DEATH OF E. A. BUTTS
Edward Alexander Butts, age 81, died at his home near Union on Friday, Oct 14, 1949, following a long illness. Mr. Butts was born in Georgia but came with his parents to Mississippi when he was eight years of age and since that time has lived in Newton County. He was from one of the pioneer families among the early residents of this section. Mr. Butts was in declining health for the last four years of his life and suffered greatly. Before he passed on he declared his faith in God and said he was prepared to meet him.
Surviving relatives are: Two sons, Olen Butts, Union and Shelby Butts, Pennington, Ala.; five daughters, Mrs. W. P. Wilson, Carthage, Texas; Mrs. Nora Redus, Memphis, Tenn.; Mrs. Bernice Pratt, Wiggins, Miss.; Mrs. Carrie Terrell, Union, Miss.; Mrs. Lenard Harris, Jackson, Miss.; two brothers, A. C. and G. C. Butts, of Union, one sister, Mrs. Cora Harmon. Stonewall, Miss.; 18 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Final rites were held Sunday morning at 10 o'clock from the Union Funeral Home with Rev. C. P. Thraikill, pastor of Union Presbyterian Church officiating.
Active pallbearers were: Earl S. Gordon, Jack L. Gossett, William M. Watkins, Jr., Charles Edward Pratt, and Freddie Joe Hollingsworth. Interment was in Union cemetery.
