Wilkes-Barre Times Leader; Wednesday, November 13, 1968:
Identified with the anthracite mining industry most of his life, Archie L. Parrish, 99, died yesterday afternoon at his home, 378 Chestnut Avenue, Kingston. Born at Evans Falls February 18, 1869, Mr. Parrish came to Wyoming Valley at the age of 18 and resided in Kingston 60 years. In his early years he was foreman for several companies, including Lehigh Valley Coal Company. In 1907 he became outside superintendent of Kingston Coal Company, and remained with that firm as superintendent until its closing. He was associated later with Reilly Construction Company, retiring when he was 80.

In 1909 Mr. Parrish designed and supervised the construction of the first breaker to produce 1,000,000 tons of coal a year. He patented a number of devices for coal cleaning, the most important of which was a flexible-arm shaking screen which became standard equipment with nearly every coal producer for sizing coal.

Mr. Parrish, who in his retirement enjoyed gardening and writing, was a member of Kingston Presbyterian Church, Regional Association of Retired Men, Coalville Lodge 474, F&AM, Ashley; Knights Templar and Iren Temple.

A brother, Nelson E. Parrish, died November 30, 1967. A daughter, Lola C., died in 1954. His wife, Margaret Gettinger Parrish, died in 1955. Surviving are daughters, Mrs. Ida M. Smith, Hazleton; Mrs. Martha P. MacIntyre, Kingston; Ester M., at home; sons, Floyd G., Forty Fort; Calvin R., Ephrata; Archie L., Jr. Hellertown; eight grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren.
