Tarrell Gooch Hatch passed peacefully from this life Thursday morning May 17, 2018, to reunite with his wife, family members and dear friends.

Tarrell was born July 20, 1921, to Edwin Pace and Ethel Gooch Hatch in their home at Swan Lake, Idaho. Also born the same day was Tarrell's twin sister, Carrell. Tarrell and his twin were the fourth and fifth children of a family of eight children. Their home had no electricity or running water. Tarrell moved with his family to Cove, Utah, in 1925, where he spent his childhood. He worked on the family farm and had a job delivering newspapers on horseback.

Before Tarrell's senior year of high school, the family moved to Hyrum, Utah, and later to Paradise, Utah. Tarrell graduated from South Cache High School in 1939 and then enrolled at Utah Agriculture College. The summer of 1940, he was hired by R.J. Kingston Construction Company to work in Wamsutter, Wyoming, where the company built an emergency landing field. The next summer, he worked in Scottsbluff, Nebraska, building radio towers.

Following a tragic automobile accident that involved his mother and claimed the life of his father, Tarrell and his siblings rushed home to Paradise. It was decided that Tarrell would run the family farm and support his convalescing mother and minor siblings, as his older brothers were inducted into military service. Tarrell served on the local draft board.

On March 27, 1946, Tarrell married Zona Nelson in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. Tarrell and Zona lived in Paradise for two years before moving to a farm east of Idaho Falls near Iona. Here, they added a dairy to the farm operation, which they operated with the help of their seven children until 1985. The couple raised their family on the farm and in the community that Tarrell loved and where he lived until his passing.

In 1956, Tarrell began a career as a lighting consultant, and later, together with his wife, Zona, built and ran their own lighting business, Hatch Lighting Supply, which is still in operation by family members. The couple enjoyed dancing and traveling together to visit their children and grandchildren. One highlight and a thrill of their travels was visiting the Holy Land of Jerusalem and the Sea of Galilee.

Tarrell served as bishop of the Iona 5th Ward. He was awarded the Silver Beaver for all his service and support to Scouting. Together with Zona, they served two LDS missions to Texas: Corpus Christi and San Antonio.

Tarrell loved camping and huckleberry picking, gatherings and cookouts in the backyard and by the Little Sandcreek that ran through the pasture, sports in the driveway and front lawn, gardening and skiing with his family. With his boys, he loved to haul hay, fix corrals, hike, hunt and fish.

Tarrell is preceded in death by his loving wife, Zona Elaine Nelson Hatch; his parents, Edwin and Ethel Hatch; his brothers, Terrance and Myron; his sisters, Agatha Allen, Carrell Thorpe, Leona Miller and Darlene Richman; daughter-in-law Julie Hatch; his great-grandson, Easton; and great-granddaughter Isabelle.

He is survived by his brother, Bartley Hatch; his children, Selby (Cynthia), Deilia Purcell (Robert), Barlow (Debbie), Alban (Sherri), Cordell (Jan), Sherma Becktel (Mark) and Bradford; 40 grandchildren, and 72 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, at Iona Stake Center, corner of Highway 26 and Iona Road (55th East) in Idaho Falls. A viewing will be held Monday night from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 S. Ammon Road, and also Tuesday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services at the church. Burial will be in Archer-Sutton Cemetery. Condolences may be sent to the family online at www.woodfuneralhome.com.
