Thelma Lackey Callahan

Mrs. Thelma Lackey Callahan, 85, of Morganton went to be with her Lord on Friday, April 13, 2007.

She was born on June 15, 1921, in Burke County to the late Hartsell and Wilhelmina Lackey.

Thelma was retired from Broughton Hospital after 20 years of service as a medical secretary. She was a faithful member of Oak Forest United Methodist Church where she served as Sunday school teacher and president of United Methodist Women.

She is survived by her daughters, Judy Smith of Morganton, and Linda Miotke of Aberbeen, S.D.; a son, Ronald Callahan and his wife, Hazel, of Warrensburg, Mo.; eight grandchildren, Stacy Galle of Hagerstown, Md., Sheryl Gates of Purcellville, Va., Donnie Moitke of Fargo, N.D., John Callahan and his wife, Peni, Tammy Zvacek, Linda Kilbreth, Ronald Callahan Jr. and Rick Smith, all of Warrensburg, Mo.; and nine great-grandchildren, Piper Galle, Zachary Smith, Courtney and Milessa Zvacek, Clinton Brown, Kelsey and Jacob Callahan, and Andrew and David Gates.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Alfred Thomas Callahan Jr. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Kirksey Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Neville Storey officiating.

Interment will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Services are under the direction of Kirksey Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Morganton.
