As a young boy he spent several summers near Wolfeboro, N.H., and fell in love with the area. In 1974 he built a house on Barndoor Island, Lake Winnipesaukee, where he and Dean spent summers until 2015. In 1977 he moved to Massachusetts and started a business there so he could be closer to the lake. He and Dean lived in Andover until 2015, when they moved to a retirement community in North Andover.
John loved spending time on the water and in the woods. He spent as much time as he could at Lake Winnipesaukee and walked in the forest near his Andover home almost every day while he lived there. He also enjoyed boating, building furniture, and was a voracious reader of history. He could fix almost anything and was always happy to help others. He was a kind person who loved all creatures, including an ill-mannered grand-dog who nipped his heels. He had a wry sense of humor and never stopped joking, even in his last days.
John was predeceased by his parents and his brother Paul Styer Cutter Jr. He was survived by his beloved wife Dean of North Andover; daughter Lynn Cutter and her husband Dave Compton of Chevy Chase, Md.; son John Cutter Jr. and his wife Lynn Saunders Cutter of Chelmsford, Mass.; daughter Susan Cutter and her husband Joseph Minarich of Haddon Heights, N.J.; daughter Barbara Cutter and her husband Brian Roberts of Cedar Falls, Ia.; grandchildren Megan Cutter, Joshua Cutter, Mike Minarich, Tim Minarich, Matt Compton and Zack Compton; sister-in-law Signa Cutter; one great grandson; a niece and nephew; and several cousins.
