Billy Joel Abundis was born on 12 Aug 1978 in Des Moines, the son of Primo and San Juana (Vega) Abundis. From an early age Billy learned what it meant to be a fighter; he encountered multiple health issues throughout his life, starting with his first open heart surgery at the age of 7. Although these issues accompanied him throughout his life, they never kept him down.
For many years Billy worked at Fareway and Louie’s Meat Market, both in Clear Lake, where he would visit and laugh with anyone who crossed his path. His gift of gab and kind heart led him to many friendships throughout the years, all of which he cherished dearly.
Billy was known for his love of his family and friends, music, and playing cards. As a family they enjoyed spending holidays together, one of the favorites being Fourth of July when Billy would grill for the whole family. Sunday nights were Poker night at Billy’s and he enjoyed hosting family and friends for hours of cards. Billy also had a passion for music; he would spend countless nights staying up late in his garage and working on his latest piece.
Those grateful in sharing in his life include his father, Primo (Sherri Cravens) Abundis, Knoxville, IA; wife, Jessica (Moon) Abundis, Knoxville, IA; kids, Cassandra and Juan, both of Clear Lake; brothers, Eric (Brenda) Abundis, Plymouth, and Cody Abundis, Clear Lake; step mother, Donna Hendricks, Clear Lake; step brother, Travis Hendricks, Clear Lake; nephew, Tyler Abundis, Plymouth; grandmother, Margaret Sankey, Algona; aunts, Maria (Roger) Boyenga, TX, Rosie (Scott) Boerboom, Minneapolis, MN., and Sherri (Ken) Lamoth, FL; and special cousins, Carmelita (Manuel) Balderas, and JJ (Blanca) Sanchez. Billy will also be greatly missed by his many friends and his extended family in Mexico.
He is preceded in death by his mother, San Juana; and his grandparents.
