Jane Laura Bastean Wilhite was born October 27, 1925 to Frank and Marie Stein Bastean in Florissant, Missouri, and entered into the kingdom of heaven on July 22, 2015 in The Woodlands, Texas.

Jane is preceded in death by her parents, brothers, Robert Bastean, Micky Bastean, and Tom Bastean, sister, Margaret Wilhite and by her children, Mary Verginia Wilhite and Michael Odell Wilhite.

She is survived by her loving husband of 69 years, Odell B. Wilhite, Sr., her children, Shirley Wilhite, of Houston, Cathy Ditta and husband John, of Missouri, Martha McLain and husband Jake, of Alabama, Odell B. Wilhite, Jr. and wife Patti, of Alabama, Joseph Wilhite and wife Carolyn, of Ft. Worth, Paul Wilhite and wife Melissa, of Katy, Fr. Philip Wilhite, of Conroe, 17 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren, all of whom were the joy of Jane’s heart.

Jane was a high school graduate and worked as a secretary until marrying Odell on April 27, 1946. Together, they dreamed of having a large family and God blessed them with nine children. Jane dedicated her life to God and living her vocation as wife and mother, embracing the sacrifices along the way as part of the journey of life and God's plan. She enjoyed reading, praying and studying the scriptures, family gatherings and visits with friends, quilting and embroidering, dancing, playing pinochle and dominoes, wearing hats and...desserts.

Jane was a long time member at Our Lady of the Assumption Catholic Church in Houston and most recently at Sacred Heart in Conroe. She lived her relationship with her Lord through her daily prayers and in service to others: and to her husband, Odell, and her family. At Assumption, she was a member of the Altar Society, the Harvest Years Senior Ministry, and the Parish Council. She continued to answer God's call to serve as an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion and as a Minister to the Sick and Homebound. She found strength and support in her relationship with Jesus and from her Marriage Encounter family and her friends in the Catholic Charismatic Prayer Group.

Jane has completed her journey and rests now in our Lord's heart. The family expresses their gratitude to all those who shared in her journey: family and friends, parishioners from St. Albert and Sacred Heart, to her many doctors and nurses for their loving care - especially to Beth! Special thanks from our hearts is extended to Karen Jacob, CJ Rittgers, Nancy Morgan, Fatima Najera, and Johanna Flores for their loving care.

The family will receive visitors 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, July 26, 2015 at Earthman Resthaven, 13102 North Fwy, Houston, Texas 77060, with a Rosary to be recited at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 27, 2015 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 109 N. Frazier St., Conroe, Texas 77301, with Jane’s son, Father Philip Wilhite presiding. The Rite of Committal will follow at Forest Park Lawndale Cemetery.

Service Pallbearers in Jane’s memory are her grandsons, Daniel McLain, James Wilhite, Charles Joseph Wilhite, Andrew Wilhite, David Wilhite, and John Wilhite.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund or to the Sacred Heart Catholic School, 704 Old Montgomery Road, Conroe, Texas 77301.

"For I am already being poured out as a drink offering, and the time of my departure has come. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the course, I have kept the faith; in the future there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day; and not only to me, but also to all who have loved His appearing." 2 Timothy
