A former member of the Police Force , Mr. Charles Henry Warneford, died at his home in Bulwer Street, Herne Bay, on September 8, aged 61 years. Mr. Warneford retired from the force, after 40 years's service, on July 19, being at the time in charge of the Northcote police station. He joined the Permanent Artillery at Wellington in October, 1890, under the late Major Messsenger, and was transferred 18 months later to Fort Takapuna. He was appointed to the Police Force in Wellington in 1893. After serving on various stations he was placed in charge of Okarito station, West Coast, South Island, where for seven years he acted as mining registrar, receiver of gold revenue, and clerk of the Magistrate's and Warden's Courts. Mr. Warneford subsequently was in charge of Martinborough, Mokau, and Frankton Junction, serving for 12 years at the latter place. He went to Northcote in June, 1926.
