A member of the 1843 wagon train from Missouri to Oregon. He was the first sheriff of Clackamas County, Oregon Territory from 1845 to 1852. He was the nephew of Samuel J. Hensley who became a millionaire in Santa Clara County, CA. In 1843, Clackamas county stretched from the Rocky Mountain Divide to parts of Puget Sound, and north to the 54th parallel. This region included the present-day states of Idaho, Oregon and Washington, portions of Montana and Wyoming, and half of the province of British Columbia. By law, in 1844 the northern boundary of the county changed to the Columbia River. On April 29, 1863 William Livingston and Mary Holmes deeded five acres of land for $5.00 to the city council of Oregon City for the use as a public cemetery. They also deeded one acre to the Masonic Lodge for their use as a cemetery. In 1847 William L.
