Pacific Grove
After 102+ years, Todie Mitchell, passed away April 13, 2018. She was born on October 19, 1915 in Palms, California to Dr. William Soren Mortensen and Florence Nightengale (Crisler) Mortensen. She was the youngest of 4 children.
Her early life involved extensive travel in the U.S. and around the world on ships. She attended high school in France for two years in 1930 with her older sister Margaret after their mother's untimely death, and finished at University High in W. Los Angeles. She attended college at Pacific Union College followed by nursing school at the White Memorial Hospital in Los Angeles.
She married Dr. Cyril Louis Mitchell in 1939, and they shared their lives together for the next 53 years, following his 4 year stay in New Guinea during WW2. They had 4 children.
She loved cooking and caring for her family. Other favorite activities included hiking, camping, riding horses, car trips, foreign travel, and hosting large family reunions.
A lifelong 7th Day Adventist, Todie enjoyed friends, fellowship and support at her churches in Santa Monica, Oakhurst and Pacific Grove.
She spent her last 18 years at Forest Hill Manor in Pacific Grove, California. She loved the quick access to the walks along the ocean, her FrenchClub friends, her church and many visits from family, new and longtime friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, her husband Cyril (1992), her grand daughter Yana Trabish (2004), her son Tom (2014), her daughter Sue (2015). She is survived by her son and daughter, their spouses, 8 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
She will be interred with her husband, Cyril, in the Mortensen family plot at Woodlawn Cemetery in Santa Monica.
