Dorothy Stamey Butt

Dorothy Stamey Butt, age 96, of Marion, passed away on Sunday, April 15, 2007 at Autumn Care of Marion.

Born in Drexel, NC, Dorothy was the eldest daughter of Nelson and Katie Stamey of Morganton.

A long time resident of Marion, Dorothy, with her late husband, R.B. Butt, owned and operated Roseland Florist during the 1940s, 50s and early 1960s.

They were members of the First Baptist Church of Marion.

Her husband and a daughter, Bobbie Thompson Bachan, preceded her in death.

Surviving Mrs. Butt are two children, Linda Wright of Sarasota, Florida and Jim Bryan of Fountain Hills, Arizona: four sisters, Helen Small of Morganton, Betty Chambers of Charlotte, Norma Shook of Atlanta and Edith Williams of Morganton: eight grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at 3:00 p.m. in Westmoreland Chapel with Dr. Scott Hagaman officiating. The family will receive friends from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Oak Grove Cemetery in Marion.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church of Marion, 99 N. Main St, Marion, NC 28752, or to a charity of choice.
