Nelson R. Blessing, 70, of New Holland passed away on Sunday, May 6th, 2018, at Lancaster General Hospital.
He was born in Lancaster to the late George and Mazie (Hackman) Blessing and was the husband of Susan (Hess) Blessing.
Nelson served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Carson, CO, and worked for Penn Dairies and Acme Distribution. He enjoyed ballroom dancing and served on the board of Lancaster USA Dance. He loved his family, trains and volunteering at Landis Homes, Lititz Meals On Wheels and at Akron Mennonite Church where he was a member.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Blessing; a daughter, Natalie, wife of Robert Schaeffer of Ephrata; a son, Nelson R. Blessing, Jr. of Brunnerville; 2 step-sons, Michael Hurst, of New Holland, Steven, husband of Hazell Hurst of Holly Springs, NC; a step-daughter, Christina, wife of Karl Dirks of Elizabethtown; a granddaughter, Kaitlyn Demmer of Ephrata; 5 step-grandchildren, Brianna, Cody, Sofia and Noah Hurst, Owen Dirks and a sister, Shirley Harkins of Mt. Joy.
A visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 16th, 2018 from 5-7 PM at Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron, followed by a memorial service at 7:00 PM with Pastor Rachel Nolt officiating. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Nelson's name may be made to Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543 or Akron Mennonite Church, 1311 Diamond St., Akron, PA 17501.
