Thomas was a proud United States Army Veteran who served during WWII and the Korean War. He attended Indiana Technical College and received his Bachelor's Degree in electrical engineering. Thomas worked at Westinghouse: Small Motor Division for many years until he retired in 1978; he was an inventor throughout his life and he held seven patents. His final patent was for a bee-proof flower on hummingbird feeders, done at the age of 90. Thomas was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was a member of Shawnee United Methodist Church for many years where he was very active on their Board of Trustees and sang in the choir.
Thomas is survived by his sons, Tom (Lynne) Charlton, Jr. and Dr. Ed Charlton and by Alice's children, Samuel Buchanan, Barbara (Michael) Fohey and Susan Buchanan; grandchildren, Garret and Stephen (Sarah) Fohey, Dr. Thomas (Analisa) and Frank (Jessica) Charlton, Nyssa Rogers and Elizabeth (Tony) Mangiameli; 8 great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret (John) Kennedy and many, many nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, May 8, 2018, at Shawnee United Methodist Church with Rev. Bryan Bucher to officiate the service. Burial will be in Shiffler Cemetery in Bryan, OH following the service. Visitation will be from 10:00 AM until the time of the service at 11:00 AM at the church.
