Patrick Egan was born on December 21, 1833, probably in County Mayo, Ireland, since his father was from there. He was the third son born to Thomas and Mary Ann (Welsh) Egan, both of whom are buried in Quebec, Canada.

Elinor Rooney was born December 21, 1842, in Canada, to Patrick and Ellen (Tracy) Rooney. She was the third child of nine children.

Patrick Egan married Elinor Rooney on January 27, 1861, in Canada. They had nine children: Thomas Edward, Joseph C., Patrick, Eliza A. (Annie), Mary Ellen, John Francis, Julia Catherine, Margaret E., and Alice. They moved from Quebec sometime after June of 1878, possibly living in Minneapois for a time, and then moving to the Padua area sometime around 1890.

Parick and James (his brother) married sisters, Elinor and Mary Rooney, seven months apart.

According to church records, Elinor died of paralysis (stroke). Patrick and Elinor's sons Joseph C. and Thomas are buried in Padua. Patrick's brother James, and Elinor's mother, Ellen Rooney, sister Mary, and brother Thomas Rooney are also buried in Padua.
