JONATHAN ROBINS was born in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, in the year 1807, and is now 66 years of age. He is the third son of Margaret and Robert Robins, who, when young Jonathan was nine years of age, went to New Jersey. After staying in that State twenty-five years, they returned to their old homestead in Pennsylvania. In 1847, Mr. R. left the scenes of his childhood and came to Iowa with the determination of making it his future home. His father being a man of wealth, Jonathan began life with a goodly portion of property. Mr. Robins is now enjoying good health, although somewhat advanced in years. By careful management, he as reached a financial condition that will enable him to spend the remainder of his life in retirement, which he intends doing in a few years. In the year 1829, Mr. Robins was married to Elizabeth Winter, by which marriage he had ten children, only six of whom are now living. Mr. Robins’ first vote was polled in New Jersey, for Andrew Jackson. Since that time he has upheld the principles and voted the ticket of the Republican party. He is at present residing on his farm of 160 cares in Franklin Township, the place of his first settlement in Iowa. In Mr. Robins we recognize the true type of the American farmer; zealous in his work, attentive to his business, and unencumbered by debt, he may be ranked among the first farmers of this county.
