Son of Henry Steed Jr. of Wood County West Virginia. Amos had one sister, Sarah F. Steed (1836-1912) who married William J Lee. Amos had three brothers Zachariah Steed (1828-?) who married Mary Taylor; James Steed (1831-1921) who married Minerva Fought ; and Thomas B. Steed (1836-1909) who married Martha McCary. Amos went into Co. "D", 6th West Virginia Infantry and served under William N. Nelson during the Civil War. He was honorably discharged 8-27-1864. He lived in Bethany Missouri. He married Rebecca Dunkle in 1865 and this couple had 10 children. Later, he married Mahalia Smith in 1894 and they had one child. Amos had a stroke in 1915. Amos died on 19 Feb 1921 and is buried at Old Soldiers Home in Leavenworth in Section 34, row 15, grave 14.
