Samuel Mansell Brand, Sr., 88, died April 12, 2007,at his home in Clinton. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m. Sunday and 11:00 a.m. Monday at Wright and Ferguson Funeral Home on High Street in Jackson. Funeral services will be 12:30 p.m. Monday in the funeral home Chapel with burial to follow in Clinton Cemetery.
He was born on December 21, 1918 to Smith Edward Brand and Mattie Mansell Brand in Canton, MS. He and his wife Audrey Williams Brand enjoyed over 60 years of marriage together.
Mr. Brand graduated from Canton High School and attended Hinds Junior College. He served in the Army Air Corps from March of 1943, to October of 1945, where he was a 1st Lt. and flew over 105 combat missions. He was a member of the Berma Banshees during WWII and was awarded numerous medals for his military services, including the Distinguished Flying Cross. He graduated from Jackson School of Law with his wife Audrey on May 30, 1953. He was admitted to the Bar on March 26, 1953. He owned and operated the House of Brands for over 40 years until his retirement 2 years ago. He was a member of Mt. Salus Presbyterian Church for over 40 years where he served as Elder and on the school board.
He is survived by his loving wife Audrey Williams Brand; three sons, Sam Brand Jr. and his wife Marilyn of Raymond, Greg W. Brand of Jackson, and Marc E. Brand and his wife Amy of D'Lo; 11 grandchildren, Todd Brand, Allison Brand, Jason Brand, Catherine Brand Mason, Jeff Brand, Arley Brand, Jarred Brand, Corbin Brand, Kaley Brand, Darcie Price Wallace, and Eric Price; 5 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his two sisters, Evelyn Brand Thigpen and Mattie Brand Newell. The family would like to extend thanks to two special neighbors Dr. Kenneth and Sue Cronin and special friend Nathaniel Ross.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to French Camp Academy, Chamberlain Hunt Academy, the Palmer Home for Children, or the charity of your choice.
