Herbert A. Hale, 95, of Salem, went to be with the Lord and join his other loved ones on Friday, March 15, 2002.

He was predeceased by his wife, Beatrice K. Hale and a son, William R. Hale, whose wife, Virginia Hale survives.

Mr. Hale was a member of North Roanoke Baptist Church. He retired after 34 years service as a correctional officer for the state of New Jersey.

Surviving are a son, Frederick B. Hale, Sr., of Arizona; stepdaughter, June Morris of Salem; stepson, Jack Barton and his wife, Elizabeth, of Virginia Beach; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren, including Cheryl M. Conner, Amy C. Keister, John Morris and Betty Morris; several great-grandchildren; a brother, Warren Hale and his wife, Pauline, of Floyd; two sisters, Ilene Clifton of Meadows of Dan, and Glada Bowers of Salem; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friends, Judy and Lloyd Hensley.

The family requests that memorials be made to North Roanoke Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, March 18, 2002, from North Roanoke Baptist Church. Dr. Darryl G. Crim will officiate. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Oakey's North Chapel.
