Columbia - A funeral service for Virginia Miller Baker, 95, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Mrs. Baker passed away Monday, April 23, 2018. Born in Gastonia, N.C. on December 30, 1922, she was a daughter of the late John Henry Miller and Virginia Rosalee Quattlebaum Miller. Virginia retired from the Parks and Recreations Department for the City of Columbia as a director of Heathwood Park and taught Kindergarten, where she was highly regarded by her students and their parents. She was a member of Shandon Baptist Church and a former member of Forest Lake Presbyterian Church, where she was a Sunday School teacher. She won numerous Blue Ribbons at the S.C. State Fair for her crocheting and tatting. Surviving are her daughters, Ginny Holder (Ed) of Port Orange, Fla. and Betsy Sallman (Jack) of Hendersonville, N.C.; sons, Mike Baker (Helen) of Aiken, Mark Baker (Chris) of Columbia and Edward Baker of Columbia; nine grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husband, Bruce N. Baker; son, Bruce N. Baker, Jr. (Rae); brother, John H. Miller, Jr.; and sisters, Georgia Lloyd, Flemma Rawls and Betty Cox.
