Grace Wiggins Slade, 91, passed away on April 20, 2018 at her home in the Chesapeake Retirement Community in Newport News. Grace Dell Wiggins was born in Craven County, NC on December 30, 1926 to Dallas Wiggins and Ruby Cannon Wiggins. She was a resident of Newport News for most of her life.

Grace married Harry Baxter Slade in 1945 and they were married for 61 years. Grace was an active member of North Riverside Baptist Church. She enjoyed traveling with Harry, knitting, playing cards, and spending time with her extended family, including her many nieces and nephews.

Grace was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a son, Paul Baxter Slade and her sisters, Lila Caudell and Luenett Stallings. Grace's sister, Eddie Ray Chapman, passed away less than 36 hours after Grace. Grace is survived by one sister, Nancy Ellington; her son, Allen Slade and his wife, Mary of Williamsburg; eight grandsons, Andrew (Julia), Benjamin (Anna), Michael, Nathan, Timothy, Matthew, David and Jacob; and three great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 - 8:00 pm on Friday, April 27, 2018 at Weymouth Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be conducted at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at North Riverside Baptist Church by Rev. Chris Kurtz with interment to follow at Peninsula Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Weymouth Funeral Home.
