Mrs. Rosetta Burgess died early Thursday morning, April 13, 1922 in Sauk Centre at the age of 79. Her maiden name was Rosetta Jones, born at Rock Stream, Yates County, New York, July[sic] 8, 1843 and came west with her parents in early childhood to Illness. She was married at Rockford, Ill., Feb. 8, 1864 to Aaron L. Burgess. To them five children were born, four of whom are still living: Mrs. Wm. Fields, of Sacramento, Cal.; Ralph W. Ellenburg, Wash.; Vernon L., Sauk Centre, and Mrs. M. E. Hagan, St. Paul. The eldest Alva H. died in 1899 leaving an infant son, Russel J., of Alexandria, Minn.; whom Mrs. Burgess raised to manhood. She leaves one living sister, Mrs. Hulda Woodruff of Mpls., now 81; the eldest of six.
Mrs. Burgess was a pioneer Christian woman. She came to Minnesota with her husband and two children in 1869 during the turbulent period following the Civil war and the Indian outbreak. Settling in Blue Earth County, 10 years later moving to Sauk Centre. After living here 18 years they moved to Sisseton, S. D., where Mr. Burgess died in 1904. In the same year she moved to Wyndmere, N.D., where she continued to reside until 1914 when she moved to Alexandria and in 1921 because of failing health came to Sauk Centre.
