About two weeks ago, he and his wife went to Galva, Iowa, and were visiting Mr. and Mrs. Fred Ellis when Mr. Hitchcock began to fail and was brought home on Sunday.
His parents were Levi and Fannie Hitchcock. He moved to Grant County, Wisconsin, in 1851. He married Anna Powell on Jan. 1, 1867, at Woodman, Wisconsin.
Lucius served as a private in the Civil War in Co. B, 11th Wisc. Regiment, and in Co. B, 33rd Wisconsin Regiment, being a year and a half in the service.
He and his bride came to Ida County, Iowa, in 1869, almost a decade before the railway came to Ida Grove, being before the town of "Ida" (Village of Ida) was founded. He settled on a farm bringing his wife and baby daughter in a lumber wagon from Denison, Crawford County, Iowa. In 1881, Mr. Hitchcock moved into Ida Grove and for many years followed the trade of barbering. In 1922, he served as the city marshal under the administration of Mayor, J. M. Rees.
He was a member of the Ida Grove Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.), which is now reduced to a mere handful of two or three members. He belonged to the Methodist Church.
Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Hitchcock, the parents outliving them all, except, Mrs. Fred Ellis of Galva, Iowa. The children born to them: Alice, Stanberry, Levi, Augustus, Blanche, Adelbert, and Romeo.
The funeral was held Thursday, May 20, 1926, at 2 p.m. at the Hitchcock home with Rev. J. J. Davis officiating.
