Mrs. Maud Gothier, 75, and widow of the late L.C. Gothier, died Monday morning at the home of her son-in-law, J. Howard Rice, after a short illness. For the past eleven years she had made her home with the Rice family, where she had ministered as mother during the years when the children's mother was ill and since her death on August 5, 1938.
Funeral services were held at the Catholic church Wednesday morning, when mass was read by Rev. Father G.E. Kelley, and interment was made in the in the Catholic cemetery. Arrangements were in the hands of the Davis service.
Maude M. Dubel was born July 11, 1868, at Elkader, Iowa, the daughter of Volney and Ella Dubel. She was married to L.C. Gothier on December 17, 1888, at Sioux City, Iowa, and the family moved to Flandreau in 1918.
To this union were born eleven, of whom ten survive the mother. They are: Ernest, Gerald and Mrs. Roy (Mable) Armstrong of Flandreau; Paul and Mrs. Joe (Ethel) Bergman, of Hartington, Neb.; Mrs. Julius (Marie) Grindvold, of Circle, Mont.; L.C. Gothier Jr., of Tooele, Utah; Mrs. Matt (Margaret) Redl of Los Angels, Calif; Joe Gotheir, of Glasgow, Mont.; Earl Gothier, of Kirkwood, Mo. Also surviving are 28 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren. Her husband passed away December 26, 1925. Two bother who survive are Anson Dubel of Omaha, Neb., and Kit Dubel of Sioux City, Iowa; a sister is Mrs. Ed Ryan of Cherokee, Iowa.
