Abraham Jacob Bartell born November 5, 1913, in Fairview, Oklahoma went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 7, 2002. He and his wife of 67 years, Hulda May, were former residents of Bakersfield and retired to Morro Bay in 1981.
Abe came to California as a teenager. During WWII, he worked for Baptist Life Insurance and later in a defense plant. In 1945 Abe and Hulda moved from the L.A. area to Kern County. The remainder of his working years were spent in the trucking business and at Huldas Pie Shop. He retired from trucking in 1974. Abe is a long-time member of First Baptist Church of Bakersfield, and for the past 20 years, a member of Calvary Baptist Church in Morro Bay.
He was preceded in death by his sisters, Lydia Hodel, Sara Kliewer, and Rose Ann Friesen and brothers Henry, John, Jack Rueben, and Dan Bartell; son Leroy, grandson Darrin, and great-granddaughter Elise. He leaves behind his dear wife Hulda; daughters and son-in-laws, Marieta and Bob Williams, Julia and Roger Pelz, Joanne and Don Bledsoe, and Bette and Brad Kyle. Also remaining are grandchildren: Bryan Pelz, Kelley Bishop, Stephen and Gaylene Pelz, Mark and Charity Pelz, Lynnan and John Svensson, Christina and Brandon Frederick, Suzanne and Heath Rappleye, and Ashley Bledsoe, and Lorianne Kyle and great-grandchildren Morgan Svensson, Megan and Jacob Pelz, Matthew Pelz, and Justin Rappleye.
Graveside services will be held at Cayucos-Morro Bay Cemetery on Monday, May 13, 2002, 10 a.m., followed by a memorial service to be held at the Calvary Baptist Church on Monday, May 13, 2002, 11 a.m. also in Morro Bay.
Donations may be made in his memory to Calvary Baptist Church Sound System in Morro Bay.
