She was born on January 23, 1928 in Mobile, Alabama, daughter of Conrad and Lucile Armbrecht. Lucile graduated from Murphy High School and received her degree in English from Randolph Macon Women's College where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. On December 8th, 1949, she married Kemp Rush Dunaway, who preceded her in death on July 2, 2014. Lucile was a member of the Charlotte Debutante Club and The German Club. She enjoyed playing tennis and golf with her husband, Kemp at the Charlotte Country Club and Debordieu Colony Club. One of Lucile's finest accomplishments was acting as Director of Volunteers at Charlotte Memorial Hospital, for many years, where she was beloved by her "candystripers, pink ladies, and grey ladies";.
Lucile is survived by her sister, Johanna Armbrecht Bauknight (Charlie) of Anderson, SC; and her three children, Kemp Dunaway, Jr. (Liz), Connie Dunaway Blythe (Frank), and James Rush Dunaway. She leaves behind her grandchildren, Alec Blythe (Lane), Kempie Blythe, Jake Dunaway, Byron Dunaway, Rush Dunaway, Lewis Dunaway, Bennett Dunaway and a precious great-grandson, Lawton Blythe.
A reception for friends will be held at Southminster Retirement Community at 8919 Park Road from 5-7 pm on Friday, February 13, 2015. A Funeral service will take place at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Myers Park Presbyterian Church, 2501 Oxford Place, Charlotte, NC 28207. The family will receive friends following the service in The Welcome Center of the church.
