Mr. Porter was born in Sydney Australia, in 1850. A few years later his parents moved to San Bernardino, Cal., and he settled in Beaver. Utah, when a young man. While there he participated in the Black Hawk Indian war.
He served a mission for the L.D. S. church in Virginia, having joined that church in California. While on his mission he met Rebecca Pritchett, later marrying her in Salt Lake.
Mr. and Mrs. Porter lived in Fairview, Utah, where Mr. Porter served for many years as postmaster. Two girls and three boys were born, the girls dying in infancy. The sons are: John W. Porter, Samuel C. Porter and Arthur P. Porter, all of Ogden. There are also four grandchildren and two half-brothers surviving.
