BURNELL A. BUNDY, 87, ARMY VETERAN, DIES

Burnell A. Bundy, 87, of 6 Cemetery St., died Wednesday evening at the Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown.

The funeral will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Piddock Funeral Home with the Rev. Tracy Cook, former pastor of Adams United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Rural Cemetery.

Calling hours will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, where an American Legion service will be at 6:45 that evening. Donations may be made to the Adams United Methodist Church or to the South Jefferson Rescue Squad.

Surviving are his wife, Hazel, and four nieces.

Two brothers, Alden C. Bundy and Harold Fairbanks, and two sisters, Edna Hall and Clara Crast, died before him.

Born on Aug. 25, 1906, in Adams, a son of Frank C. and Mary Spencer Bundy, he attended Adams High School and worked for the New York Central Railroad for three years. He later was a bookkeeper for the W.A. Waite & Son feed store in Adams for 17 years.

He entered the Army on March 14, 1942, as a quartermaster with Headquarters Detachment, 1879th SCU. He was later a quartermaster supply technician at the prisoner of war camp at Camp Livingston, La. He was discharged Sept. 14, 1945, as a staff sergeant.

Following his military service, Mr. Bundy was self-employed for a few years before working for the W.S. Rice Co., Adams, and later for Bradley Hardware, Watertown, retiring in 1969.

A marriage to Alta Golding ended in divorce. He married Hazel Mathews on April 30, 1944, in Adams at the home of the bride's parents with the Rev. Charles Wallace officiating. The couple lived in Adams since their marriage.

Mr. Bundy was a member of the Adams United Methodist Church, a member and past commander of Don Rounds American Legion Post 586, and an adopted veteran of the American Legion Auxiliary.

He was a life member of the Disabled American Veterans and the South Jefferson Chamber of Commerce and a past member of the South Jefferson Senior Citizens Club.
