Born May 8th, 1953 in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late William and Betty Malesic.
She proudly raised two children in Enola, Allan and Melanie, who were with her by her side every moment as she bravely battled cancer for a second time.
Barbie was a graduate of the East Pennsboro High School Class of 1971 before entering the Polyclinic School of Nursing, where she earned a degree in Nursing in 1974. She spent the entirety of her 40-year career in nursing at the Polyclinic and Pinnacle Health Emergency Department, diligently and lovingly serving her community's most acutely ill patients. Caring for others brought her immense pride and joy, and she dedicated both her professional and personal life to it.
After 40 years of caring for others, she retired briefly to focus on her community, her hobbies, and her two beautiful grandchildren. She was active in her community through the East Pennsboro Democratic Club; she enjoyed bingo and she learned to dance. She was a natural at it. Barbie was also an active member of the Cathedral Parish of St. Patrick in Harrisburg, PA.
Most importantly, she spent generous amounts of time in her final months with her children, her grandchildren, and her closest friends.
Barbie was a strong, bold, vibrant, and wonderful woman who sacrificed everything to better the lives of those around her.
Surviving her are her son Allan Parsons and his partner Tanesha Fields of Los Angeles, CA; her daughter Melanie Palermo and her husband Michael Palermo of Roswell, GA; her grandchildren Vienna and Joseph Palermo; her brother Thomas Malesic and his wife Natalie Malesic of Dillsburg, PA; her nieces Meagan Malesic and Brooke Paulus, and her nephew Ryan Malesic of Dillsburg.
We will all miss Barbie terribly, but we know that her extraordinary legacy of love, caring, feistiness, and selflessness will live on.
Barbie's family is eternally grateful to the team of nurses and doctors at the North Fulton Hospital Neurological Intensive Care Unit, in Roswell, GA. They worked tirelessly to give her a fighting chance and provided incredible care for her in her final weeks of life.
A memorial service will be held at 9:00 AM on Saturday, October 14th, 2017 at the Cathedral of Saint Patrick, 212 State Street, Harrisburg, PA.
There will also be an informal visitation from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, October 13th, 2017 at Richardson Funeral Home, 29 S Enola Dr, Enola, PA.
In lieu of flowers, please consider donating any unneeded airline miles to The Extra Mile (http://www.thextramile.org/), a charity that allows less fortunate families to spend time with loved ones fighting terminal diseases. Alternatively, you can make a monetary gift to Barbie's Tribute Fund at the American Brain Tumor Association (http://hope.abta.org/goto/barbaraparsons), which will help advance the understanding and treatment of brain tumors to improve, extend, and ultimately save more lives of those impacted by a brain tumor diagnosis.
