Agnes (Summer) Mayes Lippitt, age 95, died on March 20, 2018. Agnes Lippitt, daughter of John and Agnes Mayes, loving wife of Edward Stafford Lippitt, Sr. passed away peacefully at the home of her daughter, Betsy, in Cincinnati, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her four children: Ed, John, and Betsy Lippitt and Nancy Lippitt Hood. She is also survived by six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. In addition to her parents and husband, she is predeceased by her brother, Lt. John B. Mayes, US Army Air Corp and Nancy L. Mayes, Lt. Colonel USAF Reserves and WWII WASP. Agnes Lippitt served her country during WWII as a Cryptographer/decoder in Washington D.C. Agnes was born in Newberry, South Carolina. While attending Winthrop College in the Music Department, she met her future husband, Ed. They married in 1943 before he left for Germany, as an enlistee with the U.S. Army. After his return, Agnes and her family lived mostly in Charlotte, NC before moving to Dayton, Ohio, where she spent over sixty years. She obtained her Master Degree in Education and taught elementary school, influencing the lives of countless students. She directed the Mother Singers, a women's choir at her children's school. All her life, Agnes was often heard throughout her household singing and playing the piano. She is greatly missed by her family and friends. Graveside funeral services will be conducted at 2:30 PM, Saturday, April 14, 2018 at Rosemont Cemetery, Newberry by the Rev. Tresco Shannon. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Saturday from 1:00 until 2:00 PM at the Whitaker Funeral Home. The family suggest memorials be made in her name to Hospice of Cincinnati, PO Box 633597, Cincinnati, OH 45263 or an organization of your choice.
