Susan Jean Hathaway Glynn, 62, passed away in the comfort of her family at the home of her special niece on Monday, April 9, 2018.

Sue was born August 19, 1955 to Robert E. Lee Hathaway and Betty Ruth (Hearrington) Hathaway. Both of her parents previously passed away.

Four siblings survive her, Robert E. (Debra) Hathaway II of Reno, Nevada, Candace (Mac) Leverenz of Danville, Sondra Dyer of Chesterfield, Missouri and Sally (Joe) Cromwell of Danville. She spent her final days at the home of her eldest niece, Liya Hussmann (James) Rogers.

She was blessed to be part of a large family, including many other nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who all adored her. She was also very fortunate to have a caretaker and friend, Rita Wilder, at her side during her last months.

Most important to Sue were her two children who will continue to carry on her memories, Andrew Cameron Hathaway Glynn and Meghan Caitlyn (Gaige) Nale. Meghan gave her mother the love of her life in James Austin Rye, her first grandson and Sue's strongest desire was to share in the birth of her first granddaughter, Ophelia Mae Nale, who was born just hours before Sue's passing. Sue was able to hear the sweet cries of her newborn granddaughter. She will forever be by their side as their guardian angel.

Sue worked many jobs to achieve her dream of becoming an educator and graduated from the University of Illinois/Springfield. She taught English in Japan for two years, immersing herself in the culture before returning to teach in her hometown of Danville.
She then moved to Florida and started her family. There she eventually received her master's degree from the University of Southern Florida. During her distinguished teaching career in Lakeland, Florida she was selected as teacher of the year and host of Disney teacher of the year. She also started several literacy programs, worked with at-risk youth, taught at the local college and became expert at grant writing helping improve the quality of education for all of her students.

Sue was a voracious life-long reader who enjoyed re-reading (and re-reading) classic favorites as well as keeping up on current writers. She loved form and style and being drawn into stories of any subject. As an avid reader, she enjoyed sharing that passion for literature through teaching.

Sue will be greatly missed as she touched many lives and was loved deeply.
