He studied architecture at Princeton Unversity, graduating in 1883. After graduation, he became a pupil of Professor Ware of Colombia University, and also worked in the office of Potter, Robertson and Lord, later opening an office of his own. In October, 1884, he was elected a member of the American Institute of Architects, probably the youngest candidate ever admitted.
Unfortunately, Frederick's workload heavily taxed his health. He contracted pneumonia in December of 1885, and never recovered.
