Evelyn Cornelia Looney, beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Friend, stepped from this life to her eternal reward on Friday, March 16, 2018.

She was born to Robert Gillespie and Viola May Brown Gillespie in Bellingham, Washington, the third of four children. After spending a brief time of her childhood in Wilmington, California, the family moved north and settled in Port Orchard, Washington, where Evelyn spent the better part of her 94 years of life.

As a young woman, she worked at the Retsil Veteran's Home. Roller skating after work was her favorite activity and that is where she met a young sailor, Charles Looney from Fort Worth, Texas, who would become her lifelong partner in marriage. They were married May 19, 1945, in Culver City, California and celebrated 64 years of marriage before Charlie preceded her in death on September 17, 2009. She was also preceded in death by her youngest son, Gary Eugene, on December 21, 1983.

Surviving are her children: daughter, Betty L. Hill (Jim); son, Charles E. Looney, Jr. (Patty); son Douglas R. Looney (Sharon). In addition, she had 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter and a great-great-grandson on the way!

Evelyn was known for her cooking and the ability to feed a crowd at a moment's notice. Family and friends always looked forward to her homemade Christmas caramels and the best potato salad, macaroni salad, and tamale pie.

Visitation was held on Thursday, March 22 from 3:00-5:00pm under the direction of Tuell-McKee Funeral Home. A graveside service, conducted by her pastor and son-in-law Rev. Jim Hill, was held on Friday, March 23 at 10:00am at Sunset Lane Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made in Evelyn's name to Hospice or a charity of the donor's choice.
