A. Donald Buffington, 88, of 204 Post Road, Valley View, passed away Wednesday at his home.

He was born Monday, Dec. 16, 1929, in Valley View, a son of Arthur R. Buffington and Elsie M. Buffington.

He was a 1947 graduate of the former Hegins Township High School and a 1949 graduate of the former Eckles College of Mortuary Science.

He was a funeral director for the former Buffington Funeral Home and Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, both of Valley View.

He was a member of Friedens United Church of Christ, Hegins.

He was also a member of Valley View Park Association, NRA, Valley View Gun Club, Valley View Fire Company and the Lykens Valley Camp of Driftwood. He was the first Teener League coach from Schuylkill County to win the State Championship in 1970. He also a member of the Tri-Valley school board for several decades. He played and coached semi-pro baseball in the area for many years.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Joyce M. Buffington, who passed away May 1, 2014, and his sister, Charlotte F. Maurer.

He is survived by two sons, Scott D. Buffington and his wife, Gail, Schuylkill Haven, and Blake R. Buffington, Orwigsburg; a grandson, Michael Buffington, Northampton; three granddaughters, Amy Buffington, Stroudsburg, Jodi Buffington-Reardon, Sinking Spring, and Julie Banks, Monroeville; a great-grandson, Luke Buffington, and two great-granddaughters, Avery and Kaitlyn Reardon.

As per Donald's request, a graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. Monday at Friedens Cemetery, Hegins, with the Rev. Michael Klahr officiating. There will be no viewing or visitation prior to the graveside service. Memorial contributions can be made to the Valley View Park Association, P.O. Box 533, Valley View, PA 17983. Buffington-Reed Funeral Home, Valley View, is in charge of arrangements. Condolences can be left for the family at www.buffingtonreed.com.
