Jerry Dean Hancock, 79, of Ottumwa, died April 2, 2018 in Ottumwa as the result of an auto accident.
He was born May 18, 1938 in Ottumwa to Robert V. and Alice L. Hopwood Hancock.
He married Miriam Christine Bacus on February 8, 1958 and she preceded him in death on February 19, 2016.
A 1956 graduate of Ottumwa High School, Jerry had owned a refrigeration and air conditioning business and started the service department for Winger Mechanical. In his retirement, he managed Hillside Apartments.
He was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 33.
Jerry enjoyed flying model airplanes, riding his motorcycle and enjoyed his dachshund, Danny.
Surviving are his sons, Mark (Tanya) Hancock, Dennis Hancock and Gregory (Lisa) Hancock all of Ottumwa; 5 grandchildren, Amber, Jessie, Travis, Brandon and Jenna; 10 great-grandchildren, 2 brothers, Robert W. Hancock of Rolla, MO and Larry L. Hancock of Prairie du Chien, WI; and close friend, Kelly Albertson.
His body has been cremated.
Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Reece Funeral Home with Pastor James H. Wakelin officiating.
The family will be present 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the service to greet friends.
Memorials may be made to Heartland Humane Society.
