Grace Meynardie
Grace Morris Meynardie HANAHAN - Grace Morris Meynardie of Hanahan, died peacefully in her sleep Sunday, December 31, 2017. Born November 20, 1921 in Prosperity, SC, she was a daughter of Jerome H. Morris and Myrtle Rodgers Morris. She attended primary and high school in Prosperity where she played women's basketball and was active in Beta Club and drama productions. An alumna of Newberry College, she taught High School English and Typing. During WWII she worked for the Board of Rationing in Newberry, clerked at Fort Jackson in Columbia and later at the Army Depot in North Charleston. One of the first residents of the Berkeley Hills subdivision of Hanahan, she partnered with her husband Carl E. Meynardie, founder and publisher of The Hanahan News, in that endeavor. She was a charter member of the Berkeley Hills Garden Club and a member of North Charleston's Business & Professional Women's Club. She was a former long-time member of Advent Lutheran Church, where she served as a teacher in the Women's Sunday School Class, and was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church, Hanahan. She had been residing with her daughter and family in Little Mountain SC since her husband's death in 2011. Carl, her husband of 60 years, lovingly and tirelessly cared for her as she experienced the effects of Alzheimer's Disease, a horrible disease that unrelentingly robs of memories, faculties, and personality. Ultimately, it could not destroy her sweet spirit and abiding love within. She is survived by her children: Carl E. Meynardie, Jr.(Connie), Mt. Pleasant, Stephanie Stoudemayer (John), Chapin, and Paul Meynardie, Hanahan; Grandchildren: Scott Meynardie (Donna), Cameron Meynardie, Brittany White (Andy), and Zachary Stoudemayer and numerous nieces and nephews. The very personification of her name, Grace always offered open arms, an open heart, a ready smile and a contagious laugh. She loved her family beyond measure and has left a legacy of caring for creation, always awestruck by the natural beauty all around us. Her deep Christian faith shown through in the character of her life. She trusted in the promises of God in this life, the same loving Creator in whom she now rests. A worship service in celebration of her life will be held Saturday, April 7 at 2:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1106 Yeamans Hall Rd., Hanahan. The family will receive visitors in the fellowship hall following the service. Memorials may be made in her honor to the charity of your choice. The family asks all those who are able to plant a tree or start a flower garden in her memory.
