Muscatine, Iowa -— Helen R. Smith Peekel, 96, of Muscatine, formerly of Clearwater, Florida, died on Monday, October 27, 2014, at Lutheran Homes.
Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or Bickford Cottage in Muscatine, Iowa.
Helen was born on Aug. 9, 1918, in Fairmont, Ind., the daughter of Walter and Celestine Woollen Scott.
Her first marriage was to Clarence J. Smith and he preceded her in death. She later married George Peekel and he also preceded her in death.
She loved gardening, playing bridge, and being with her grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include two children, Nancy Jo Meilinger of Palatine, Ill., and Timothy S. Smith and wife, Lauren, of Muscatine; three grandchildren, Elisa Rieger of Palatine, Ill., Kevin Smith and wife, Tricia, of Charlotte, N.C., and Todd Smith and wife, Susan, of Park Ridge, Ill.; and seven great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; three sisters; and three brothers.
There will be no visitation or funeral service. Graveside service: 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Sylvan Abby Cemetery in Clearwater, Fla.
