Leon was born on January 25, 1935 to Henry and Jennie (Eggen) Eneboe in Sisseton S.D. He attended school in Sisseton and graduated with the class of 1953. Leon entered the U.S. Navy in 1957. He spent time in the Hawaiian Islands, Japan and was an atomic veteran. He went through 36 atomic bomb tests while he was aboard the USS Boxer. He also spent time on the Bikini Islands while they were still hot with radiation to determine how much radiation the men were exposed to. Leon returned home from the Navy in 1961. On September 3, 1961 Leon married Marlene Backman at Sisseton, SD. He enjoyed a long and rewarding career in the grocery business starting in 1951 for the Red Owl Store while still in high school working for forty cents an hour. He worked for Warren Olson and eventually he and his wife, Marlene purchased the store from Warren and operated the store with many of his family until 2007. Leon was a talented artist, producing the ads for the store for many years, painting all the sign work, and making banners for many organizations and events. He also was an oil painter and enjoyed a lifelong hobby of photography. Leon was also a very talented musician. He played the guitar and also the steel guitar. He loved making music. He became friends with Donald Backman in the mid 1950's, and made many trips to the Backman farm to make music. This is where he met the love of his life, Marlene June Backman. Leon went on to make many lifelong friends through his music and the True Country band. Leon had a very strong faith and love for the Lord. He was a lifetime member of the Christian and Missionary Alliance Church. He was very active in church, serving as adult Sunday school teacher for many years. He also served as song leader, elder, board member, wherever he could be of service. It was also very important for him to pass that faith onto his family. He could be found at his place at the table in the mornings reading his bible or inspirational books by his favorite authors.
