ALLISON - Elmer Raymond Allison, age 89, of York, formerly of Windber, died peacefully, Wednesday, January 31, 2018 at the York Hospital. Born in Windber on April 9, 1928, he was the son of the late David and Cora (Custer) Allison. Elmer was the loving husband of the late Ruth (Gilbert) Allison; she died April 10, 2014. Elmer was a 1945 graduate of Windber High School. Prior to moving to York County, he was a Scoutmaster for many years at the Windber Church of the Brethren and a member of the Cambria County Kiwanis Club. Upon moving to York, he worked as a welder for York International, retiring in 1991. He was a member of the York First Church of the Brethren and a member of the York Lodge #266 F.&A.M. Elmer enjoyed carpentry and lamp making. He was well known for his lamps that he fashioned out of antique meat grinders, making over 150 of them through the years. Elmer never met a stranger, and leaves behind many dear friends. Elmer is survived by his daughters: Brenda Clancy, and her husband Ron Clancy, Sr. of Dover; Dawn Allison of Manchester; Joy Allison of Gettysburg; and Corabeth McGruer, and her husband Dave McGruer of Chula Vista, CA. He was preceded in death by his daughter Georgann Molineux and his brother David Allison. A memorial service to celebrate Elmer's life will be held on Monday, April 9, 2018 from York First Church of the Brethren, 2710 Kingston Road, York. The time of service will be announced at a later date. Private interment in Richland Cemetery, Johnstown, will be held at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Elmer's memory may be made to: York First Church of the Brethren, 2710 Kingston Road, York, PA 17402 or York Habitat for Humanity, 33 South Seward Street, York, PA 17404.
