Mary Ruth (Baker) Naylor was born on October 26, 1921 in her grandmother's house in Giles County, Tennessee, the daughter of Reverend Hiram Edward "H E" Baker (1893-1981) and his 1st wife Bettye Kila (Harwell) Baker (1899-1929).
She was a graduate of Maryville College where she received her Bachelor's degree in High School Education. She went on to teach at Goodlettsville High for several years.
She was married on April 22, 1949 in Dickson County to George Willie Naylor II (1917-1995), and after having 8 children, she began teaching in the Metro Nashville Schools, first at Dalewood, then Jere Baxter, Lockeland and Kirkpatrick Elementary. She taught special education classes for special needs children and in her last 2 years was Principal at Lockeland and Kirkpatrick Elementary.
Mary Ruth was also a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Mount Juliet and had raised her family in Inglewood Methodist Church in Nashville. At Grace U M Church, she was an active member of the Bible Seekers Class, Ruth Circle, and Young at Heart.
After retiring from Metro Nashville schools in 1985, she moved to Lebanon, and she was 96 years old when she passed away quietly at home on March 22, 2018.
Mary Ruth was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, younger sisters Doris Ellen (Baker) Hays (1928-1984) and Esther Bettye (Baker) Thompson (1924-1990), her elder brother Howard Edward "Buddy" Baker (1920-1989) and by her grandson George W Naylor IV. Survivors included five married sons, three daughters and two sons-in-law, twelve grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services were held at Grace United Methodist Church, and burial was in Hermitage Memorial Gardens.
