Mr. Jack Edwin Armfield, 95, went home peacefully to be with his Lord and the love of his life, Alice, on March 23, 2018 at RidgeCrest Retirement Community. He was born in Mount Airy on July 27, 1922, to Isaac Lote and Emma Abaline Jackson Armfield. He graduated from Mount Airy High School in 1943 and joined the US Army with seven high school buddies. A World War II veteran, he spent time in England and Germany with the 11th Armored Division, 3rd Army and was honorably discharged in 1945. He was a member of Oak Grove United Methodist Church and was a founding member of Bannertown Volunteer Fire Department. He retired from Duke Power Company. In 1945, he married Alice Frances Joyce. Devoted to his family, church and community, he was a loving husband, father, grand-daddy, great-granddaddy, brother and uncle. He loved spending time at the lake with his family and loved watching it snow. Preceding him in death are his loving wife of 72 years, parents, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his daughters, Joyce H. Joyce (Steve) of Kernersville, H. Jo Barlow (Richard “Do”) of Winston-Salem, and Jackie Diamont (Ronnie) of Pilot Mountain; grandchildren, Sherri Greene of Kernersville, Scott Hunter (Julie) of Advance, Chad Barlow (Gina) of New Bern, Todd Barlow (Kelley) of Winston-Salem, Chris Diamont (Shannon) of Advance, and Abby George (Brooks) of Mount Airy; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday afternoon, March 28, 2018 at Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The service will be conducted by Rev. Harry Sammons. Burial will follow at Skyline Memory Garden with full military honors by VFW Memorial Honor Guard, Pilot Mountain Post 9436 and Mt. Airy Post 2019. The family will receive friends Wednesday, March 28, 2018 from 12:30-2pm at Moody Funeral Home. The daughters would like to give special thanks to grand-daughters, Sherri, for the love and care-giving she provided and Abby for her love and devotion. The family also gives special thanks to the staff at RidgeCrest for their love and devotion during his stay there and to Hospice of Mount Airy for their care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Oak Grove United Methodist Church, c/o Tina Mooney, 107 Mark Street, Mount Airy, NC 27030 or Mountain Valley Hospice and Palliative Care, 401 Technology Lane, Suite 200, Mount Airy, NC 27030.
