She was born February 16, 1920 to William Alvin Coon and Bernice Spilsbury in Colonia Juarez, Chihuahua, Mexico. She was the third of five children, with one brother and three sisters.
Maurine graduated from high school in Mexico and attended Brigham Young University, where she studied teacher training. She taught fifth grade in Fountain Green, where she was introduced to Joseph Sells (Jay) Vickers. Maurine and Jay were married on June 10, 1949 in the Mesa Temple. They made their first home in Nephi.
Jay was a farmer and worked at Nephi Rubber Products. He taught mom to drive a tractor and the truck. Maurine worked as a cook at the old hospital.
Maurine was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where she served in Relief Society, Primary, and Young Women. She served as a temple worker in the Manti Temple for seventeen years, and attended the temple weekly. Maurine liked to read, travel, quilting, and knitting. She enjoyed getting her hair done weekly, senior citizens activities, and playing games with her friends.
Maurine was preceded in death by her husband, Jay; parents; and brother and sisters; and a grandchild, Billy Vickers. Maurine is survived by her children, Devon (Sheri) Vickers, Marilyn (Grant) White, Charlotte (Dick) Burnett, Colleen (Kirt) Wilkinson, Brad (Terrie) Vickers, and Randall (Lorilyn) Vickers; twenty-two grandchildren; and sixty-three great-grandchildren, including three which will be born this year.
Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 26, 2018 at 11:30 a.m. in the Nephi North Stake Center, 1125 North 400 East, Nephi. Viewings will be held on Sunday, March 25, 2018 from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening at Anderson Funeral Home, 94 West 300 North, Nephi; and prior to the services at the church on Monday at 10:00 a.m.
Burial will be in the Vine Bluff Cemetery.
